PE - WE ARE SPORTSPEOPLE...

Physical Education Curriculum Overview

At Middleton Parish we aim to develop our pupil’s skills in all areas of the P.E curriculum. In Early Years we develop children’s fundamental movement skills, providing opportunities for children to become competent and confident in their ability to co-ordinate themselves. Our goal is to enhance our environment according to pupil’s needs, in order for them to access opportunities for developing their skills. Some of these enhancements include:

  • Climbing equipment in the play ground

  • Digging equipment to develop gross motor skills

  • Bikes to develop agility, balance and co-ordination

  • Equipment for throwing, catching and kicking

In KS1 we aim to master the basic fundamental movements learnt in the Early Years and develop balance, agility and co-ordination to be able to use equipment appropriately for a purpose and apply skills learnt in a range of activities. They learn to participate in games involving teams involving attacking and defending roles.

In KS2 we aim to broaden skills learnt in KS1 by providing a curriculum in which pupils must learn how to use their skills in different ways. They are taught to communicate and collaborate effectively to achieve an outcome. Our aim is to encourage pupils to analyse and evaluate their own performance, and others, recognising successes and areas for development.

We offer a range of extra-curricular activities, both before and after school to different year groups. Some of these include:

  • Football for boys and girls

  • Dodgeball

  • Running Club

  • Gardening Club

  • Netball

  • Swimming Club

Our school is part of the Middleton Sports Partnership, in which children have the opportunity to participate and compete against other schools in Middleton, in a variety of sports.

Alongside this we are also part of the Rochdale School Games partnership, enabling opportunities for children to participate and compete in a range of different sports and activities, against schools across the Rochdale Borough.
